'One hour after my mother died I was on a mountain. The night before, in my tent beside an alpine lake, I had struggled to sleep. I worried about my lack of cell reception and internet access. What if there was an emergency? I was uneasy in my sleeping bag.
One day after my mother died I pulled into the parking lot of a gas station near the trail head. I received a barrage of messages on my phone the moment signal had been restored. Each message opaquely menaced: "please call."
One week after my mother died I was alone in my car stuck in traffic after a long drive. I had not been sleeping much. I struggled to keep track of the brake lights ahead of me. I struggled to keep my hands on the wheel. I turned on a voice recorder. I talked for hours, the rest of the drive, in order to maintain the contours of reality.
One year after my mother died I reviewed what I had recorded. I sliced it up into pieces that formed the basis for this album.'
