This sound piece features extracted selections from a series of recordings made for the sound installation "untitled (21SEP_08OCT_2023)", originally presented at my solo exhibition, "Walking / Unfocusing" in 2023.

This work questions the themes of the recordist's intent and focused attention.
The recordings were made over an 18-day period from September 21 to October 8, 2023. Capturing approximately 8 hours daily from noon until night, the total archive spans over 136 hours (except September 30). Four recorders and pairs of omnidirectional microphones were fixed to trees in the woods behind my house at intervals of roughly 3 to 10 meters. I gradually shifted the recording points each day.

For the installation, the field recordings were played through 4 speakers and a subwoofer. Prepared to match the gallery's opening days and hours (12 days / 7 hours), the sound synchronized with the actual time of day. Throughout the exhibition, the sound never repeated for a single second. (Exhibition photos: see booklet)

To optimize this vast archive for home listening, 10-minute segments of sound were selected from each 8-hour recording. The selection of these timeframes was entrusted to my wife, as the project centers on aimlessness and unfocus. This process helped avoid creating a predictable "digest" version (a selective curation of what I personally considered the "best" moments).
The 4-microphone sound was panned in the DAW at L100, L40, R40, and R100, with the volume balance of each fixed in place. Compression and noise reduction were applied after mixing, only to sections with large dynamic shifts. To counteract the muffled sound caused by the windjammers, a subtle high-frequency EQ adjustment was applied. Overall, sound processing was kept to a minimum.

This release contains 17 days of sound, including unexhibited recordings.
