'Cache by Stefan Goldmann comes on a transparent Card-R: a miniature data CD in the shape of a business card. The disc contains a password-protected ZIP archive holding a WAV file. The recording is visibly present, yet the sound itself remains inaccessible as long as the password is withheld.
The archive uses AES-256 encryption, a standardized cryptographic system designed to make unauthorized access computationally impractical. The number of possible combinations expands beyond meaningful human timescales.
Cache therefore does not produce impossibility, but deferral: media suspended behind finite but impractical computation. The sound remains latent within the object, recoverable in principle, but permanently withheld in practice. Access is not hindered by institutional authority or physical measures, but by quantitative and temporal constraints.'
